SUMMARY:Community Reads Book Club Discussion: So You Want to Talk About Race
DESCRIPTION:Please join us as we read So You Want to Talk About Race. In Ijeoma Oluo’s book\, she offers a contemporary\, accessible take on the racial landscape in America. The discussion will be moderated by Michael Hicks\, Assistant Professor of Education at Centenary College of Louisiana. The discussion event will take place outdoors on the front lawn of Norton Art Gallery on Thursday\, April 22\, at 5:30 PM. Click here to register. \nABOUT THE BOOK\nIn So You Want to Talk About Race\, Ijeoma Oluo guides readers of all races through subjects ranging from intersectionality and affirmative action to “model minorities” in an attempt to make the seemingly impossible possible: honest conversations about race and racism\, and how they infect almost every aspect of American life. \n“Oluo gives us — both white people and people of color — that language to engage in clear\, constructive\, and confident dialogue with each other about how to deal with racial prejudices and biases.” — National Book Review \nABOUT COMMUNITY READS\nCommunity Foundation of North Louisiana invites any and all in the community to join Community Reads\, a book club led by CFNLA. We encourage community members to join us as we read about issues like poverty\, education\, addiction\, mental health\, blight\, and criminal justice reform. Each quarter CFNLA will announce a new book selection. At the end of the quarter\, we will invite up to 25 community members to participate in a group discussion and dialogue about the book. \nRESERVE YOUR COPY\nReserve your copy today through Shreve Memorial Library! The library has copies available in print\, audiobook\, e-book\, and e-audiobook. Along with their regular service\, curbside pickup is now available. The following locations are currently open:  Broadmoor\, Cedar Grove/Line Avenue\, Hamilton/South Caddo\, North Caddo\, North Shreveport\, Wallette\, and West Shreveport. \nStay up to date and joing the club at cfnla.org/bookclub.
